Kindergarten has been busy working on learning school routines and making new friends. In science we will be learning about living and non living things while growing pumpkin plants and going on a field trip to the pumpkin patch!
First Grade News
First grade is just finishing up with three weeks of reading review and are practicing reading 10 minutes every night. Starting September 24th all first grade students will receive nightly reading homework which will be on blue paper. Our new Bridges in math curriculum has already introduced counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, recognizing numbers and extended number patterns, addition within 20, building numbers within 20 using our number rack boards and story problems, all while building number sense through various math activities. In science we have our plant kits and first graders will have the opportunity to plant seeds and learn about everything a plant needs to grow!
2nd Grade News
2nd grade is working on writing friendly letters and personal narratives. In math we are working on addition and subtraction within 20 and skip counting. We just took our NWEA tests and DIBELs testing. In science we are learning about erosion.
3rd Grade News
In reading third grade is working on comprehension, sequencing and compound words. Phonics skills are being taught along with using context clues to find the meaning of unknown words.
In math, we are working on finding the friendly number that ends in a 5 or 0. There are a lot of workplace games that are helping kids practice their addition and subtraction skills. In number corner we are showing patterns, taking surveys and creating graphs, skip counting and practicing word problems. We have the Reiman Simmons time travelers field trip coming up on October 11th from 9:20-12:20. The kids will learn about their community and what it was like to be some of the first families to settle in the Quincy Valley. The kids have a really fun morning of activities and learning ahead of them!
