One-hundred and four Washington State schools will be honored for being amongst the 5% highest improving Washington schools in Reading and Mathematics over the last 5 school years. Quincy High School is one of only 24 high schools in the state to be awarded this distinction and one of only nine high schools to be named a repeat winner, having previously been named a school of distinction in 2007.
“Recognition of the dedication and perseverance it takes to sustain improvement over multiple years is an essential component of supporting our educational system”, said Sue Mills, Executive Director at the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE), a Redmond-based educational research and data-service organization.
The 104 “Great Schools 2009” will be recognized for their sustained improvement at a Schools of Distinction luncheon on Sept. 26, at the Great Schools and Exemplary Leaders Institute sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK)-Washington State and is being held at the Renton campus of City University. In addition representatives from CEE and PDK will be attending the Quincy School Board meeting on October 27 to present the school with their certificate and banner which will proudly be displayed along with the 2007 banner.
“This award illustrates the hard work and dedication of the entire staff of the Quincy School District, not just the high school,” said David Talley, Principal at QHS. “I look forward to building on this foundation as we move toward our goal of reducing the achievement gap among our students.”
