Quincy School District Continues "Slow Start" Initiative for Incoming Kindergarteners
We are excited to continue during the 2025-26 school year, an initiative known as "Slow Start," designed to support new incoming kindergarten students. This approach aims to ease the transition into school by allowing teachers to work with students in smaller group settings, helping to reduce anxiety, and providing opportunities to get acquainted with students while teaching them classroom and school routines.
The "Slow Start" program will commence during the first three days of the school year—August 27th, August 28th, and August 29th, 2025. During this period, office staff will schedule a time for each child's teacher to meet with their parents and the student. This personalized conference will allow teachers to learn more about their students and their families, fostering a strong foundation for the school year.
Parents will receive their scheduled conference time and date from their school office when it reopens in mid-August. Notifications will be made via phone calls and follow-up letters to confirm the conference details. It is important to note that kindergarten students will not attend regular school sessions during these three days, except for their scheduled conference time. Students in grades first through twelfth will begin school as usual on August 27th.
Following the initial conference days, kindergarten students will attend school in split groups during the second week. One group will attend on September 2nd, and the other on September 3rd. Parents will be informed of their child's designated day in August.
The first full day of school for all kindergarten students will be September 4, 2025.
We are committed to ensuring a smooth start for all students and look forward to a successful school year. Detailed information regarding conference schedules and the first two weeks of school will be provided by your school office in August. For any inquiries, parents are encouraged to contact their respective schools starting August 15th.

Nos emociona continuar durante el año escolar 2025-26 una iniciativa conocida como "Inicio Lento", diseñada para apoyar a los nuevos estudiantes de kindergarten. Este enfoque tiene como objetivo facilitar la transición a la escuela permitiendo que los maestros trabajen con los estudiantes en grupos más pequeños, ayudando a reducir la ansiedad y brindando oportunidades para conocer a los estudiantes mientras les enseñan las rutinas del aula y de la escuela.
El programa "Inicio Lento" comenzará durante los primeros tres días del año escolar: el 27 de agosto, el 28 de agosto y el 29 de agosto de 2025. Durante este período, el personal de la oficina de su escuela programará una cita para que cada maestro se reúna con los padres y el estudiante. Esta conferencia personalizada permitirá a los maestros conocer mejor a sus estudiantes y sus familias, fomentando una base sólida para el año escolar.
