Ancient Lakes Elementary Students Transform Learning into Action with Hat and Glove Drive

Three second-grade students from Ms. Kayla Hoffer's Highly Capable class at Ancient Lakes Elementary took their classroom lessons about community helpers to heart and transformed learning into action. Charlotte McCormick (right), Briella Wall (left), and Emmah Evens (center) collaborated with their teacher to organize a successful hat and glove drive to support Kids Hope, a program of the New Hope Advocacy Center based out of Moses Lake, WA. 

Kids Hope provides a safe space for children who may be victims of neglect, physical abuse, or sexual abuse, ensuring they receive compassionate care and necessary resources. The students’ drive resulted in the collection of a total of 339 items that included gloves, hats and scarves which will directly benefit children served by the center. 

The students were inspired to take action after learning about the important role community helpers play in supporting those in need. They partnered with their teacher to organize the drive, spreading the word across the school and community. 

Ms. Hoffer shared that the girls were eager to do more than just learn about community helpers; they wanted to become community helpers themselves.  

When asked how they felt about collecting all the items that would help children, all the girls agreed that it felt “good.”  

The collected winter items will be delivered to Kids Hope by the Grant County Sheriff's Department, where they will be distributed to children in need throughout the area.

Estudiantes de la Escuela Primaria Ancient Lakes Transforman el Aprendizaje en Acción con una Campaña de Donación de Gorros y Guantes

Tres estudiantes de segundo grado de la clase de Alta Capacidad de la Sra. Kayla Hoffer en la Escuela Primaria Ancient Lakes llevaron sus lecciones sobre el papel de los ayudantes comunitarios más allá de las clases, transformando el aprendizaje en acción. Charlotte McCormick (derecha), Briella Wall (izquierda) y Emmah Evens (centro) colaboraron con su maestra para organizar una exitosa campaña de donación de gorros y guantes en apoyo de Kids Hope, un programa del Centro de Apoyo New Hope ubicado en Moses Lake, WA.

Kids Hope ofrece un espacio seguro para niños que podrían ser víctimas de negligencia, abuso físico o abuso sexual, asegurando que reciban atención compasiva y los recursos necesarios. Gracias a esta iniciativa, las estudiantes recolectaron un total de 339 artículos, incluyendo guantes, gorros y bufandas, que beneficiarán directamente a los niños atendidos por el centro.

Las estudiantes se sintieron motivadas a actuar tras aprender sobre la importante labor que realizan los ayudantes comunitarios al apoyar a quienes lo necesitan. Junto a su maestra, organizaron la campaña, difundiendo el mensaje por toda la escuela y la comunidad.

La Sra. Hoffer compartió que las niñas estaban entusiasmadas por ir más allá de simplemente aprender sobre los ayudantes comunitarios; querían convertirse en ayudantes comunitarias ellas mismas.

Cuando se les preguntó cómo se sentían al haber recolectado tantos artículos para ayudar a los niños, todas coincidieron en que se sentían “muy bien”.

Los artículos de invierno recolectados serán entregados a Kids Hope por el Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Grant, quienes los distribuirán a niños necesitados en toda el área.
