Quincy, WA — Quincy High School student Gerardo Guerrero has been accepted into the highly competitive Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program (SSP), a rigorous academic experience that gives motivated high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while studying at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Gerardo will attend the 7-week summer program as a full Harvard student, earning a total of 8 college credits by completing either two 4-credit courses or one intensive 8-credit course. Upon completion, he will receive an official Harvard University transcript, and his credits will be transferable to the college or university he attends in the future.

The Secondary School Program is designed to prepare students for success in college by immersing them in advanced academic coursework and exposing them to the pace and expectations of college life. With residential, online, and commuter options, the program also provides opportunities to build friendships and balance academics with extracurricular activities.

Each year, over 10,000 high school students apply to Harvard’s SSP, making it an incredibly selective program. Gerardo’s acceptance is the result of his strong academic performance and his hard work throughout the application process, which included writing several essays on a range of topics.

The total cost of the program is approximately $15,000. Gerardo was awarded financial aid from Harvard covering nearly half of the tuition and plans to begin fundraising to help cover the remaining expenses.
