Quincy School District to Honor 2022 Wall of Fame Inductees 

 

QUINCY, WA – August 5, 2022, The Quincy School District is excited to announce that five outstanding individuals have been selected to be inducted into the class of 2022 Wall of Fame. David Alcala, Abraham Flores, Susan Yaw, Pete Romano, and Sue Gregory have been selected as they have brought honor to themselves, our schools, and the community through their achievements and contributions. 

 

David Alcala is a former Quincy athlete, graduating in 1996. David was an all-state lineman in high school, then played football at Eastern Washington University and became a member of the 1997 Big Sky Conference Championship. In 2021 David was selected as a 2000-2009 EWU All-Decade Team member. Additionally, David has the third longest discus record and second longest shot-put record for QHS track and field.  

 

Abraham Flores was an athlete for the Quincy Jacks graduating in 2003. Abraham was a talented soccer player, becoming Quincy High School's top goal scorer for many years. In addition, Abraham played a crucial role in guiding the QHS boys' soccer team to state and eventually winning the championship in 2003. Sadly, Abraham passed away in 2007 in a boating accident. 

 

Susan Yaw was a beloved former Quincy educator. Susan was an outstanding teacher who worked tirelessly for Quincy students before retiring after 19 years in the district. She was recognized as one of the first National Board-Certified teachers in the district and helped facilitate colleagues as they sought National Board certification. She was also instrumental in bringing the BEST (Beginning Educator Support Training) to Quincy. Susan was a strong leader who always focused on improving educational outcomes for students through supporting teachers and staff. Unfortunately, Susan passed away in 2016.  

 

Pete Romano is a Quincy High School alumnus. Pete has been an active community leader and member of the Quincy Rotary Club. Pete is an avid supporter of the FFA club overseeing the installation and removal of crop signs each spring and fall along highway 281 and Interstate 90 with the help of students. As the retired owner of Quincy Farm Chemical (now McGregor), Pete has also been a longtime supporter of academic scholarships for graduating seniors. 

 

Suzanne (Sue) Gregory is a former Quincy elementary teacher, serving Quincy students for 35 years. Sue was a dedicated teacher with a passion for serving others. During her teaching career and after, she volunteered for many organizations, including the Children's and Adult Theater, Red Cross, Quincy Museum, and various other organizations. Sue was active with Quincy youth, middle, and High School athletics, coaching, umpiring, working concession stands, scorekeeping, and volunteering for volleyball, baseball, basketball, soccer, and track events.  

 

The five recipients were selected by a committee that consisted of community members, former students, and current and former staff members. Nominations were submitted electronically, and after careful deliberation, the selection committee came to a final vote in June. 

 

Recipients will be inducted during halftime at the second home football game on September 9 at the Quincy High School stadium. Plaques will then be displayed on the wall outside the Quincy High School gym.
