Heat and Air Quality: What Families Should Know

With temperatures expected to reach over 100°F this week ( WeatherBug), we want to let you know how we decide when it is safe for students to participate in outdoor activities such as recess.

We use two important tools:
- The Heat Index Chart, which looks at both temperature and humidity. If the level gets too high, we hold recess indoors.
- The Air Quality Index (AQI), from AirNow.gov. We will keep students indoors when the AQI hits 150 or above. Students with lung conditions will stay indoors when the air quality ranges from 51-100.

We’ll be monitoring the weather and air quality throughout the week.

Calor y Calidad del Aire: Lo Que Las Familias Deben Saber

Con temperaturas que se espera superen los 100°F esta semana (según WeatherBug), queremos informarles cómo decidimos si es seguro que los estudiantes participen en actividades al aire libre, como el recreo.

Usamos dos herramientas importantes:

• El Índice de Calor, que considera tanto la temperatura como la humedad. Si el nivel es muy alto, realizamos el recreo en el interior.
• El Índice de Calidad del Aire (AQI), del sitio AirNow.gov. Mantendremos a los alumnos dentro del los edificios cuando el índice de calidad del aire (AQI) alcance los 150 o más. Los alumnos con problemas pulmonares permanecerán dentro de los edificios cuando la calidad del aire varíe entre 51 y 100.

 

Estaremos monitoreando el clima y la calidad del aire durante toda la semana.
