Quincy School Board Appoints Dr. Nik Bergman as Superintendent of Schools 

anuary 5, 2022 - At a special Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 4th, the Quincy school district approved a motion to offer current Assistant Superintendent Dr. Nik Bergman the Superintendent of Schools position (click here for video of appointment).  On December 29, 2021 current Quincy Superintendent, John Boyd, announced that he was leaving his position as he has accepted the position of Interim Superintendent at Evergreen Public Schools in Vancouver, Washington. With Boyd leaving in February, the board unanimously agreed that Dr. Bergman was the clear path forward with his broad knowledge of the district, strong school and community relationships, and extensive leadership of the strategic work of the district. 

During a discussion of the decision to offer the position to Dr. Bergman, Board members offered the following comments:  

“I think Nik is ready for this position and I think it is the best move at this time for the district to move him into a permanent position,” stated Board President Jack Foglesong. 

Board Vice President Tricia Lubach noted “I can’t imagine anyone one better suited to take over right now, mid-year, mid pandemic.  Nik and John have been a terrific team. Nik is an integral part of the community, his kids and family are in our schools and he has worked here for 18 years. I am excited to have that continuity for our school district.” 

Board Director Heather Folks-Lambert agreed, “John and Nik have built a great deal of expectations throughout the district and the continuity for the team that they have built is really important to go forward during the time of crisis we find ourselves in.” 

“I’m supportive of Nik because of his personal competence, his relationships with our staff members, leadership groups and community. I think it’s necessary to continue the policies that as a board we have helped, along with Nik and John, to bring into fruition. We need Nik to follow through on those polices that we have already started, and Nik is a great person to do that,” said Board Director Chris Baumgartner. 

Board members also indicated their desire for Dr. Bergman to initiate a search process to fill the now-vacant position of Assistant Superintendent. 

Some of Dr. Bergman’s accomplishments during his 18 years in the district include: 

• Serving as a teacher, dean of students, principal and assistant superintendent  
• Leading the K-3 and K-8 reconfiguration efforts 
• Passage of $108 million bond in 2016 that funded: 
• Construction of a state-of-the-art high school, the first in 60 years 
• Significant renovation of four elementary schools and the middle school, including full renovation of George and Ancient Lakes elementary schools 
• Modernization throughout the district 
• Expansion of programming for school enrichment opportunities for all K-5 students 
• Oversees the district’s Grow Your Own and BEI Programs- Hiring bilingual teachers and paraeducators to serve Quincy’s Spanish speaking students. 
• Leading the Access, Opportunity and Equity Coalition team, which was the key stakeholder group that led to the development of our Race and Equity Policy/Plan and was a major pillar of the “Quincy’s Promise” strategic plan. 

In addition to appointing Dr. Bergman as Superintendent, the board of directors officially released Superintendent Boyd from his contract and thanked him for his leadership during his 7 ½ year tenure in Quincy. 

Board Vice President Tricia Lubach stated, “John has moved this district to a good spot. We greatly appreciate John as a leader and person.” 

Superintendents Boyd and Bergman will work together on a transition plan.  Mr. Boyd has offered to use vacation time from his new position as Interim Superintendent in the Evergreen School District to be in Quincy to help during the transition and to finish up a few key projects that he has overseen.  Dr. Bergman and Mr. Boyd will propose a timeline for transition to both the Quincy and Evergreen School boards.

La Junta Escolar de Quincy nombra al Dr. Nik Bergman como Superintendente de Escuelas

5 de enero de 2022 - En una reunión especial de la Junta Directiva el martes 4 de enero, el distrito escolar de Quincy aprobó una moción para ofrecer al actual Superintendente Asistente, Dr. Nik Bergman, el puesto de Superintendente de Escuelas (haga clic aquí para ver el video del nombramiento).  El 29 de diciembre de 2021 el actual Superintendente de Quincy, John Boyd, anunció que dejaba su puesto ya que ha aceptado el puesto de Superintendente Interino en las Escuelas Públicas de Evergreen en Vancouver, Washington. Con la salida de Boyd en febrero, la junta directiva acordó unánimemente que el Dr. Bergman era el camino claro a seguir con su amplio conocimiento del distrito, sus fuertes relaciones con la escuela y la comunidad, y su amplio liderazgo en el trabajo estratégico del distrito.

Durante una discusión sobre la decisión de ofrecer el puesto al Dr. Bergman, los miembros de la Junta ofrecieron los siguientes comentarios:

"Creo que Nik está preparado para este puesto y creo que es el mejor paso en este momento para el distrito para moverlo a una posición permanente", declaró el Presidente de la Junta Jack Foglesong.

La vicepresidenta de la Junta, Tricia Lubach, señaló: "No puedo imaginar a nadie más adecuado para asumir el cargo en este momento, a mitad de año, en medio de una pandemia.  Nik y John han formado un equipo estupendo. Nik es una parte integral de la comunidad, sus hijos y su familia están en nuestras escuelas y ha trabajado aquí durante 18 años. Me entusiasma tener esa continuidad para nuestro distrito escolar".

El directora de la Junta Heather Folks-Lambert estuvo de acuerdo, "John y Nik han construido una gran cantidad de expectativas en todo el distrito y la continuidad para el equipo que han construido es realmente importante para seguir adelante durante el tiempo de crisis en que nos encontramos."

"Apoyo a Nik por su competencia personal, sus relaciones con los miembros de nuestro personal, los grupos de liderazgo y la comunidad. Creo que es necesario continuar con las políticas que, como junta directiva, hemos ayudado, junto con Nik y John, a llevar a cabo. Necesitamos que Nik continúe con esas políticas que ya hemos iniciado, y Nik es una gran persona para hacerlo", dijo el Director de la Junta, Chris Baumgartner.

Los miembros de la Junta también indicaron su deseo de que el Dr. Bergman inicie un proceso de búsqueda para cubrir el puesto, ahora vacante, de Asistente del Superintendente.

Algunos de los logros del Dr. Bergman durante sus 18 años en el distrito incluyen:

• Dirigir los esfuerzos de reconfiguración de K-3 y K-8
• Aprobación del bono de $108 millones en 2016 que financió:
• La construcción de una escuela secundaria de última generación, la primera en 60 años
• Renovación significativa de cuatro escuelas primarias y la escuela intermedia, incluyendo la renovación completa de las escuelas primarias George y Ancient Lakes
• Modernización en todo el distrito
• Ampliación de la programación de oportunidades de enriquecimiento escolar para todos los estudiantes de K-5
• Supervisa los programas Grow Your Own y BEI del distrito - Contratación de maestros y paraeducadores bilingües para atender a los estudiantes de habla hispana de Quincy.
• Dirigir el equipo de la Coalición de Acceso, Oportunidad y Equidad, que fue el grupo clave de interesados que condujo al desarrollo de nuestra Política/Plan de Raza y Equidad y fue un pilar importante del plan estratégico "Quincy's Promise".

Además de nombrar al Dr. Bergman como Superintendente, la junta directiva liberó oficialmente al Superintendente Boyd de su contrato y le agradeció su liderazgo durante sus 7 ½ años de permanencia en Quincy.

La vicepresidenta de la junta, Tricia Lubach, declaró: "John ha llevado a este distrito a un buen lugar. Apreciamos mucho a John como líder y persona".

Los Superintendentes Boyd y Bergman trabajarán juntos en un plan de transición.  El Sr. Boyd se ha ofrecido a utilizar el tiempo de vacaciones de su nueva posición como Superintendente Interino en el Distrito Escolar de Evergreen para estar en Quincy para ayudar durante la transición y para terminar algunos proyectos clave que ha supervisado.  El Dr. Bergman y el Sr. Boyd propondrán un calendario para la transición a las juntas escolares de Quincy y Evergreen.
