Become a Paraeducator

Paraeducators are an integral part of our learning and teaching team. Under the supervision of the teachers, paraeducators assist with multiple levels of support in schools.  Their role can include preparing learning materials, assisting in instructing individuals and small groups of students, and working one-on-one with students with special needs.


Paraeducator Requirements

Each paraeducator must complete the following requirements:

  • Be aged 18 or older.
  • Hold a high school diploma or it's equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following requirements:
  1. Received a qualifying score on ETS (Education Testing Services) paraeducator assessment.
  2. Hold an associate's degree or higher.
  3. Have earned 72 quarter or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
  4. Completed an apprenticeship as a para in a program registered with the Washington state apprenticeship and training council.

ETS Paraeducator Assessment 

One of the possible pathways to becoming a paraeducator in Washington state is to take the ETS (Education Testing Services) paraeducator assessment. This assessment measures the knowledge and skill in Math, reading, writing, and assisting classroom instruction. you will have approximately 2.5 hours to complete the test and receive the qualifying score of 455 or higher.

Testing at Home

Testing at Quincy School District

Our district has developed a secure testing location for the community members who wish to take the ETS assessment but are in need of resources in order to complete it. If you are seeking out a paraeducator position and would like to use our testing location, please complete the following steps:
